National Green Customs Training Workshop in South Korea
On June 7th and 8th a workshop was delivered at Training Centre for Korea Customs in the framework of the Green Customs Initiative. It comprised a combination of case studies, group exercises, lectures, discussions on Waste and Chemicals including Ozone Depleting Substances and on CITES. The sessions were led by UN Environment, national and international resource persons sourced from Korea, UN Environment, China and the United Kingdom.
A total of 38 participants from the Korea Customs headquarters, 11 regional customs including Incheon, Seoul and Busan Customs and WCO RILO AP attended the workshop. The participants were trained on techniques and tools for risk profiling, detection, inspection and repatriation of illegally traded chemicals and waste, ozone depleting substances and wildlife. The workshop strengthened the cooperation at a national level between customs and environmental authorities as well as international cooperation between the various partners such as REN, RILO AP and Korea Customs Service.
