World Customs Organization hosts 12th Partners Meeting of the Green Customs Initiative

On October 3rd and 4th the partners of the Green Customs Initiative met in Brussels for their 12th annual partners meeting. The meeting, hosted by the World Customs Organization, was the occasion for the partners to update each other on their activities related to green customs, to to discuss the progress made by the Green Customs Initiative as well as to streamline their work for 2018.

The participants reflected the mandates and the impacts of the partnership. GCI was a robust initiative that partners should work together to strengthen it and to achieve more. Other relevant issues discussed were the renewed GCI-guide for custom officers and border control officers, the new GCI-website as well as the challenges of funds for the partnership.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the World Customs Organization, INTERPOL, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), the Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm Conventions, OzonAction, the Convention on Biological Diversity, the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime and the UN Environment Programme. The next partner’s meeting is planned to be organized in the October 2018.
